Visit the Daniel O%92Connell Bridge
Well worth a visit. One of the last surviving suspension bridges in Central Otago it was built in 1880 and named after a nineteenth century political leader; recognising the many Irish settlers living in and around Ophir

 

Fish for trout
Arrange a longer stay and visit the dams in the area and fish at your leisure, the Poolburn, Manorburn and Falls Dams are all within an hours drive from Ophir. The Manuherikia River is only 1km away which also great for fishing

Pick up your official Ophir Walk brochure which will guide you past all of the properties of historical interest in our lovely and interesting village.Give yourself time to stroll along Ophir%92s boulevard-width main street

 

4WD Tracks
Also for the longer term visitors there are 4WD tracks such as Thompsons Track and The Old Duntsan Road with spectacular views and scenery not to be missed. These are not open during the winter months.

 

Naseby, Ranfurly and St.Bathans
Also within ¾ hour are Naseby, Ranfurly and St.Bathans, places with charms of their own and worth a visit.There are several other places not far of the main road between these places which were important villages in the late 1800's through well into the 1960 %96 70's in there own right and worth taking the time to visit

 

Golf and Tennis
A 9 hole golf course as well as tennis and squash courts are only 2 minutes away.
